After the announcement of the inflation figures for the month of May by the Turkish Statistical Institute, attention turned to the decision to be made regarding the 25 percent limit on rent increases. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that they do not have any plans regarding the 25 percent cap on rent increases, which is expected to be abolished starting from July 1st.
Speaking on a live broadcast on NTV about the economic agenda, Şimşek said, "If we do nothing, the regulation will be abolished in July. We currently do not have any plans to make such a regulation."
The rate of rent increase for businesses has been determined with the announcement of the inflation rate for the month of May by TURKSTAT. Accordingly, the 12-month average data, which is normally used as a basis for rent increases, has also been clarified. Thus, the maximum rate of rent increase that can be applied in May has also been determined. The rate of increase for the month of June was 62.51 percent.
However, the 25 percent cap on rent increases for residential properties will continue until July 1st.
